As we age muscles beneath the skin contract and cause the skin to fold when we make facial expressions. As the years go by these folds become permanent wrinkles creating a stressed, older appearance.
How does Botox® work?
Botox® is derived from Clostridium Botulinum Toxin Type A and is manufactured by Allergan. Very low doses of Botox® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles responsible. By blocking the release of the chemical that causes these muscles to contract, Botox® enables them to relax, so the skin appears smoother. You will still show expression-smile, frown, or look surprised. This injection is a simple outpatient procedure and is virtually painless. The results may last as long as six months and is used to treat horizontal forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Another fantastic benefit of Botox® Cosmetic is that it is also used to treat severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating).
At The Skin Center of North Carolina, Dr. Cook performs all injections and was recently awarded the prestigious Gold Member status with Allergan.
